Construction of the brand new marina and accompanying marina facilities building is progressing well, with earthworks and piling now complete and the pontoons currently being installed. The marina was recently filled with 25,000 cubic metres of water from the canal, a gradual process that took three weeks in total!
During February and March, the final civil engineering activities will be carried out, and the hard and soft landscaping works will start.
The 111-berth marina, which will set a new standard in facilities for boaters in the local area, is due to officially open in late April 2019. Once completed, it will be owned and managed by The Parks Trust.
Along with the marina construction, the team has recently built a new canal inlet on the Newlands side of the Grand Union Canal. This inlet forms the very start of the proposed future Bedford & Milton Keynes waterway park, a separate project that will continue to be promoted and managed by the B&MK Waterway Trust over many future years.
